Many people asked me why reform the electoral system when we already have a democratic system? This article says it well:“Why consider reforming our electoral system? Simply because there are obvious signs that our democracy in Canada is not as strong as it might be. Low voter turnout (getting worse, it seems, with almost every election), mistrust in our institutions — in governments, in particular — polarization, and hostile partisan politics are of deep concern to many in this country and in this community.”

Canada’s electoral system has long been criticized for failing to reflect the true will of its citizens. In the most recent election, a majority of voters did not want the Liberal Party to form government. Many believed the solution was simple: if you don’t want the Liberals, vote Conservative. Yet the outcome proved otherwise — despite widespread opposition, the Liberals emerged victorious with less popular votes. This result feels deeply unfair to many Canadians.

(January 31, 2022, Markham ON) In response to the “Freedom Convoy” demonstrations happening across the country, I, Mimi Lee, condemn the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rerouted the focus to hate and further divide our country, and its administration uses all its power to suppress and vilify demonstrations against the government’s lead to impose mandates. This should not happen in a free country like Canada.

After a frantic few weeks of campaigning, the election has come and gone. I would like to extend my thanks to those who trusted me with their votes, and to everyone who participated in the democratic process in these tough times. It is your participation that makes Canada beautiful, and though it may not feel like much, I’d like you to know that I am grateful for your support. 

Mimi Lee, the Markham-Thornhill MP Candidate of the Green Party, reinstates her stand regarding the case on Huawei executive Meng Wenzhou. On July 15, 2021, the Green Party of Canada issued a statement to demand the US government to release Meng, stating that ex-president Donald Trump had abused the extradition treaty for gains in trade talk at the time. Mimi Lee strongly disagrees with this statement.
