Joint Statement from PPC candidates Against Chinese influence on Canadian elections

Published on April 9, 2025 at 1:18 PM

We, the undersigned candidates (and our teams), stand united in our unwavering commitment to safeguard democracy, ensure electoral integrity, and protect national sovereignty. We unequivocally condemn any form of interference from China in Canada's elections.

The Security and Intelligence Threats to Elections (SITE) Task Force, established by the Canadian Government, recently issued a report titled "Information Operation on WeChat Targeting the 45th General Election." This report confirms, yet again, that the Chinese government is actively attempting to manipulate Canadian voting outcomes to serve its own interests.

Canadian voters must recognize the severity of foreign interference, which has been deeply rooted in the country for decades and spans across major political parties. Canadian media outlets have exposed classified intelligence leaks revealing efforts by the Chinese government to influence Canadian policymakers.

While the Canadian government has repeatedly assured citizens that such interference is “unacceptable,” its actions have often prioritized other foreign policy goals—such as fostering economic ties with China’s vast market for Canadian resources, including minerals, raw materials, and agricultural goods—Overlooking this critical issue in the process.

To ensure that the next Parliament takes decisive action against corruption and foreign interference in Canadian elections, Canadians need to elect a diverse mix of Members of Parliament who are committed to drafting new legislation to prevent Chinese interference in the future.

We, the undersigned, urge fellow Canadians to approach this election with the utmost seriousness, vote thoughtfully, break the cycle of support for the two major parties, and ensure true representatives of YOUR voice are heard in the House of Commons.
