Many people asked me why reform the electoral system when we already have a democratic system? This article says it well:

Low voter turnout (getting worse, it seems, with almost every election), mistrust in our institutions — in governments, in particular — polarization, and hostile partisan politics are of deep concern to many in this country and in this community.”
